No matter how Su Xiaoxiao asked, Zheng Duogong just shook his head and either avoided answering, or repeatedly emphasized that Yang Rui was a good person and told them not to provoke Yang Rui, and refused to reveal a word about how he got here.

His expression was always calm, but with a trace of unquestionable determination, as if once he made up his mind, he would never change.

Hu Jiulang and Yang Tong looked at each other, and both saw doubts and solemnity in each other's eyes.

Zheng Duogong's reaction was too abnormal. He obviously knew something but deliberately concealed it. He also had an inexplicable trust and respect for Yang Rui. This was by no means as simple as being deceived.

Yang Tong said softly:

"Mr. Zheng, we know you have something to hide, but this ancient town is really weird. Yang Rui's true identity is unknown, and the cult's conspiracy has not yet been revealed. It may not be really safe for you to stay here. Please think again and leave with us."

Zheng Duogong shook his head, stood up, and said calmly:

"No need, I have made up my mind and will not leave here. Don't try to persuade me anymore. I still have some personal matters to deal with, so I won't accompany you."

Zheng Duogong didn't wait for Su Xiaoxiao to speak again, then turned around and walked into the small courtyard and closed the door. Su Xiaoxiao looked at the closed door, her eyes full of loss and anxiety. She wanted to knock on the door, but was stopped by Hu Jiulang.

Hu Jiulang said in a solemn tone:

"Stop knocking. He has made up his mind. Even if we ask further, we won't be able to find out anything. He is obviously controlled by Yang Rui in some way. He is either brainwashed or has something in Yang Rui's hands. If we continue to press, he will be alerted."

Yang Tong also nodded,

"That's right. Now that we can't find any clues, there's no point in staying here. Why don't we go back and meet Yu Yuanshan and the others first, tell them the situation here, analyze it together, and then make a plan."

Su Xiaoxiao bit her lip, her heart full of reluctance, but she also knew that Hu Jiulang and Yang Tong were right, there was really no point in staying here.

She whispered:

"Uncle Master, I will not give up on you. I will definitely find out the truth and take you out of here."

The three of them returned along the original path, and all three of them were silent along the way, full of doubts in their hearts.

Zheng Duogong's evasive words and inexplicable trust in Yang Rui made them more certain that this ancient town hides unknown secrets.

What they didn't know was that after they turned and left, the door of the small courtyard quietly opened a crack. Zheng Duogong stood behind the door, watching their leaving figures, with a complicated look in his eyes, including guilt, helplessness, and a hint of subtle fear. Then, he gently closed the door and disappeared into the small courtyard.

Hu Jiulang and the others walked along the bluestone road back to the house where Yu Yuanshan and others lived. They saw Yu Yuanshan, Li Erniu, Fan Mengxue, and Yang Shuyuan sitting in the courtyard, talking solemnly in a low voice. When they saw the three people coming back, they immediately stopped talking and looked over.

"How's it going? Have you found Mr. Zheng? Are there any clues?"

Yu Yuanshan was the first to speak, asking in an urgent tone.

Su Xiaoxiao shook her head, her face full of disappointment.

"I found him, but my uncle refused to say anything. He just said that he stayed here voluntarily. He also said that Yang Rui is a good person and asked us not to provoke Yang Rui or conflict with him. No matter how I asked, he avoided answering. In the end, he made excuses to hide in the courtyard and refused to see us again."
